Request TASL or PDP Credit

Six hours of TASL and/or PDP credit is available to those who attended the entire conference from 8am to 3pm (Central) on Friday, May 21. We are unable to provide partial credit or credit for sessions viewed after the conference has ended. “Innovation” is in our name, and that concept influences every aspect of the work we do! In order to keep our attendees safe, we have chosen a VIRTUAL format for the 2021 Tennessee STEM Innovation Summit. Based on your feedback to our recent survey, the Summit will still feature an exciting keynote speaker, learning sessions taught by incredible Tennessee educators, and a fun and interactive networking experience for all who attend! As always, the Summit will showcase innovative strategies to advance STEM integration in the classroom, providing direction on where to start planning and how to grow existing programs.

Natalie Nixon

Author and Creativity Strategist

Natalie Nixon, PhD changes lives through ideas. She is a creativity strategist who happily integrates wonder and rigor into her life and work. She is a global speaker and the author of The Creativity Leap: Unleash Curiosity, Improvisation and Intuition at Work; the editor of Strategic Design Thinking: Innovation in Products, Services, Experiences, and Beyond; and a regular contributor to Inc. magazine on creativity, design thinking and the future of work. 


Natalie earned a BA (honors) in Anthropology and Africana Studies from Vassar College; an MS in Global Textile Marketing from Thomas Jefferson University; and a PhD in Design Management from the University of Westminster in London. She is also certified as a Foresight Practitioner by the Institute for the Future.

General John W. "Jay" Raymond

Chief of Space Operations, United States Space Force

General Raymond serves as the senior uniformed Space Force officer responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of all organic and assigned space forces serving in the United States and overseas.
 
Gen. Raymond was commissioned through the ROTC program at Clemson University in 1984. Gen. Raymond deployed to Southwest Asia as Director of Space Forces in support of operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Prior to leading establishment of the U.S. Space Force and serving as the first Chief of Space Operations, Gen. Raymond led the re-establishment of U.S. Space Command as the eleventh U.S. combatant command.

Dr. Penny Schwinn

Tennessee Commissioner of Education

Dr. Penny Schwinn was sworn in as Tennessee’s education commissioner on February 1, 2019. As commissioner, Dr. Schwinn is committed to building on Tennessee’s momentum over the last decade, and plans to continue to accelerate growth through the state’s strategic plan, Best For All, which focuses on high-quality academics, student readiness and supports, and the state’s strong current and future educators.


Coming from a family of educators and committed to increasing access to an excellent education for all children, Commissioner Schwinn began her work as a high school history and economics teacher. She previously served in a number of roles in education including Chief Deputy Commissioner of Academics, an Assistant Superintendent, a school principal, and an elected school board member.

TN STEM Innovation Summit Learning Session Tracks

 School Culture

A school culture is intangible, but it’s essential. This track will explore strategies for creating a shared sense of purpose and value, instructional norms of continuous learning and improvement, and collaborative relationships that drive a STEM school culture.   

Innovative Instructional Strategies

Classroom learning can be highly engaging when infused with innovative STEM instructional strategies. In this track, participants will explore effective and unique classroom techniques to enrich traditional curricula. 

Community Partnerships

When schools and community organizations collaborate to strengthen student learning outcomes, everyone benefits. In this track, strategies for intentionally selecting and engaging community stakeholders will be shared.

STEM Career Awareness

Mastering the skills necessary for the jobs of the future is essential in preparing students for the future. In this track, the employability skills students must possess to be successful are identified along with practices to promote post-secondary success.

Engaging Underrepresented Groups

Ensuring traditionally underrepresented populations of students have access to quality STEM teaching and learning experiences is a critical step to ensure STEM for All. In this track, key strategies for expanding access to STEM education for specific groups of students will be shared.

Computer Science Education

Computer Science is emerging as an integrative part of high quality STEM instruction cutting across all grade levels and content areas.  In this track, participants will discover innovative strategies and ideas for integrating students’ exposure to computer science and computational thinking concepts and skills as part of rigorous instruction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What platform will the conference take place on?

The TSIN has contracted with a local events production company which has created a custom event platform for the 2021 Summit.

Will the virtual learning sessions be live or pre-recorded?

The scheduled learning sessions that you pre-registered for will all be hosted live with the presenting educators available to answer your questions. There will also be a selection of on-demand sessions that are 100% pre-recorded and available for you to watch at any time in the event library. 

Will my contact information be shared with sponsors?

By attending a sponsored breakout session or entering an exhibit booth, you consent to have your contact information shared with the corresponding conference sponsor and/or exhibitor. If you do not attend a sponsored session or visit a sponsor’s booth, your information will not be shared.

Can I receive TASL credit and/or PDP’s for attending?

We are happy to provide certificates for 6 hours of online professional development PDP credits and/or 6 TASL hour credits for educators who attend the entire conference on May 21. We are very sorry, but we are unable to provide partial credit or credit for sessions viewed after the conference has ended. Attendance will be verified through login time stamps. Deadline for TASL and PDP Requests: July 31, 2021

When does registration close?

Registration will remain open as long as our online bandwidth capacity has not been reached. If that occurs, the event will be considered “sold out” and registration will be closed. Otherwise, registration will remain open up to the day before the event. 

Will sessions be available online after the conference?

All learning sessions will be available for a limited time via the TSIN website.

Why is it asking me to register again?

It has been brought to our attention that the website may ask you to register, even if you already have. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please just fill out the registration information once more and proceed to the conference. 

Do I need to pre-register for sessions?

Yes. Please visit the registration site and browse the sessions to select those you would like to attend. We require pre-selection so we can give presenters an idea of how many attendees to expect at their session. 

Do I have to attend the sessions I registered for?

No. We require pre-selection so we can give presenters an idea of how many attendees to expect at their session. You are welcome to change your selection on the day of the event if you would like. (Remember, you can also view the sessions in the library at any time if one of the scheduled sessions does not interest you.)
