 If you could travel to anyplace in the world, where would you go and most importantly, how would you get there? The world offers us a plethora of cultures, foods, and societies to learn about and experience. This week you will explore travel through exploring new places and learn about the different forms of transportation that will help get us from here to there.



Today, you will become a world traveler and plan your first big expedition!



Step 1: Let’s begin our adventure and look at some of the many different places you can travel to. First, we will check out how our characters in
this story spent their time visiting and exploring new places. Second, we will explore some amazing virtual field trips here.


Step 2: What are some of the best places to travel for kids? Having specific activities for kids can make a vacation more engaging and enjoyable for the whole family.  Check out this site to see a sampling of great travel places and experiences for kids to visit.


Step 3: Now that we have explored some great places to travel to, how will we get there? Watch
this video to see some examples of different kinds of transportation. What kind of transportation should you choose to travel to a particular destination? Look at this site for more information on choosing the right mode of transportation.


Step 4: Now that you have researched some great travel places and explored some transportation, it’s time to plan your trip! You will create a travel brochure for a destination of your choice. Be sure to highlight some great places to visit for kids. You can also include some best means of transportation to move from place to place.

Wherever you choose to travel, transportation is going to get you to your destination. How has transportation evolved over the years? What new inventions have led to new ways to get from here to there? What transportation do  people around the world use?  Let’s travel to the past to take a look at the beginnings of transportation, see all the changes that have occurred along the way, and see how people travel around the world.


Today, you will explore the different methods of transportation from the past and present!



Step 1: Let’s explore what transportation was like many years ago. How did people travel from one place to another? Check out this video to see.  How has travel changed and progressed over the years? Buckle your seatbelts as we go for a ride through an animated history of transportation.


Step 2: Did you know that May 22nd is National Maritime Day?  This is a day that we celebrate the 1st transoceanic voyage made by the American steamship Savannah in 1819 using steam power. The steamship traveled rom Savannah, GA across the Atlantic Ocean to Liverpool, England. Check out more about steamboats

Step 3:  How do people from other countries travel? Do they use the same transportation types that we use? Make a list of possible modes of transportations. Now let’s take a look at different places around the world in
this video to see what transportation looks like for them. Some of these are quite innovative!


Step 4: What places would you love to travel to? What about that location makes you curious? Whether you will travel in person one day or just travel through the internet, pack your bags for an exciting adventure. Explore
this travel guide to find more information about some exciting places found around the world.

We all use modes of transportation. We go to the store to get food or to school to learn, but there are more than our normal modes of transportation available if we're traveling longer distances. Are you ready to take off on a travel adventure?  Traveling depends on people to plan trips, operate different kinds of transportation, and lead you around new places. Let's take a tour through the different types of careers!



 Today, you will traverse careers related to travel, transportation, and exploration!




Step 1: How would you like to get paid to plan trips for others and get to go there yourself? Being a travel guide allows you to get to travel along with your client to their destination to guide them on their trip. Check out this video to learn more about being a travel guide.

 

Step 2: Flight attendants help passengers feel comfortable during a flight. They make sure passengers are safely secured and take care of any other passenger needs. They also get to travel and see other cities and countries.  Check out this site to learn more about this exciting career. 


Step 3: How would you like to be in charge of driving a ship? A ship captain is in charge of operating a large vessel in many kinds of water, watching weather conditions, and using different tools to help them navigate safely. This video will give your more information about the job of a ship captain.


 Step 4: Maybe you would love to operate travel in the air instead of the water? You could explore new places from a bird’s eye view.  A pilot navigates planes and other kinds of aircraft transporting people and cargo.  Check out this video for a glimpse of a day in the life of a pilot.
