Introduction to Partnership

TSIN serves as the regional partner in Tennessee for Code.org's Professional Learning Programs. The Code.org professional development program supports efforts to expand equitable access to computer science in K-12 schools through a one-year professional development program for teachers. Code.org has programs for all grade levels. All Code.org professional development opportunities require no prior knowledge.

CS Educator Accelerator Week

Announcing the CS Educators Accelorator Week! Join us for a week computer science trainings!


Who:  There is something for everyone whose job will be impacted by the 2022 CS Law passed by the TN legislature. Specific and differentiated workshops that will build confidence, competence and understanding for Teachers in K-12 (any subject).


Where:  In-person in Murfreesboro, TN


When:  June 12 - 16, 2023, some workshops will not meet the entire week.  Dates indicated below.


What:  CS Educator Accelerator Week, Summer 2023.  

All workshops below are free of charge to TN public, charter or private school educators.

Lunch and beverages will be provided each day of each workshop on site.  

Workshops may require overnight lodging.  If you need financial assistance to procure lodging, there are limited scholarships available. Each application has more information.



CS Discoveries (Grades 5-9)

The CS Discoveries program does not require a deep prior knowledge of computer science or programming. This workshop builds content knowledge and skills needed to integrate and teach computer science. 

This program uses Code.org free resources and curriculum that are aligned with new Tennessee K-12 Computer Science Standards for grades 6-8. 


Meetings: Cohort-style training which include 5 in-person days over the summer (June 12-16, 2023, in Murfreesboro, TN) and 8 additional virtual meetings afterschool over the next school year.

o Completion of cohort earns 60 hours PDP certificate that can be applied towards unscheduled in-service hours in most districts or license renewal for TN (no partial completion hours awarded)

o Completion earns certificate that counts for half of the required coursework to earn new add-on CS Endorsement through Pathway option

CS Principles (Grades 9-12)

The CS Principles program does not require a deep prior knowledge of computer science or programming. This workshop builds content knowledge and skills needed to teach an AP or non-AP version of this course.

This full workshop has been approved by the CollegeBoard for teacher training that will allow a teacher to get AP-audit status as approved. This program uses Code.org free resources and curriculum that are aligned with AP CollegeBoard’s AP CS A course and emphasizes how to prepare students for success on the AP CS A exam.


Meetings: Cohort-style training which include 5 in-person days over the summer (June 12-16, 2023, in Murfreesboro, TN) and 8 additional virtual meetings afterschool over the next school year.

AP CS A (Grades 10-12)

The AP CS A program does not require a deep prior knowledge of computer science. This workshop focuses on the content associated specifically with programming in the AP CS A course so some basic knowledge is needed. It is advised that participants complete Code.org’s CS Principles workshop prior to this workshop.

This full workshop has been approved by the CollegeBoard for teacher training that will allow a teacher to get AP-audit status as approved. This program uses Code.org free resources and curriculum that are aligned with AP CollegeBoard’s AP CS A course and emphasizes how to prepare students for success on the AP CS A exam.


Meetings: Cohort-style training which include 5 in-person days over the summer (June 12-16, 2023, in Murfreesboro, TN) and 8 additional virtual meetings afterschool over the next school year plus 1 additional full virtual day following administration of the AP exam.  

o Completion of cohort earns 66 hours PDP certificate that can be applied towards unscheduled in-service hours in most districts or license renewal for TN (no partial completion hours awarded)

o Completion earns certificate that counts for half of the required coursework to earn new add-on CS Endorsement through Pathway option

Please note that the completion of any one of the year-long Code.org trainings (CS Discoveries, CS Principles, OR AP CS A) will serve as credit for a portion of the modules in the Computer Science Endorsement Pathway. The training will NOT replace the entire Computer Science Endorsement Pathway Course.

 Who can apply?

This program is open to all K-12 teachers in Tennessee. Educators should choose the applicable program according to gradeband.

Who is CS Fundamentals geared toward?

The CS Fundamentals is built as a beginner step into the world of computational thinking and is geared to K-5 educators. 

When do the CS Discoveries and CS Principles applications open and close?

Applications for the 2021-2022 CS Discoveries and CS Principles cohorts are now open. Applications typically open mid-winter and close in early spring.

How often do CS Discoveries and CS Principles meet for workshops?

CS Discoveries and Principles cohorts will attend a 5-day workshop in the summer and have 4 quarterly workshops in the academic year.

Is there a cost to participate in Code.org workshops?

Code.org workshops are offered at no cost to participants. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs.
