Exploring Digital Art

Exploring Creative Expression through Digital Artistry

Maker Monday

Imagine you are walking down the cereal aisle at your local grocery story, looking at all the fun, colorful, and exciting boxes. Have you ever asked to buy cereal because of the colors and design of the box? Businesses ask artists to help them design products that people will pay attention to.

Today, your challenge is to re-design the box of your favorite cereal to make it even more appealing!

Step 1: As you begin planning your design, watch this video about 7 Elements of Art, then incorporate as many as you can when designing.

Step 2: Artists also use the engineering design process to make design, create, and improve their art. Use the Engineering Design Process Template to help you plan out your cereal box design.

Step 3: Have a family member, sibling, or friend review your rough draft and give you feedback. Would they select your cereal box versus other's on the shelf. Why or why not?

Step 4: Finally, reflect on the feedback you were given and return to your design. Improve and finalize the design of your cereal box.

Step 5: Ask a family member to share a picture of your cereal box on social media using #MakerMondayTN & #LearningInPlaceTN!

Wonder Wednesday

As you ride around town or even walk down the street, you see signs and billboards. Do you ever think about who designs them? Perhaps your city has a mural that was commissioned by the government or a company. These products are often created with by a graphic designer and produced by a digital artist.

Today, you will think about how digital art is created and explore digital designs!

Step 1: What items in your home do you think a graphic designer created? Consider how the artist helped sell the product. Can you see the 7 elements of art in the design? Answer the questions about 3 items in your home in your Da Vinci notebook (June 7th).

Step 2: What does it mean to be a graphic designer? Watch this video to see the process a graphic designer uses to create a product.

Step 3: Wonder what else you can create using graphic design? Explore Canva to learn more about how to digitally design and look for inspirations in the premade designs.

Step 4: Review your cereal box design from #MakerMonday. Would you change anything after looking at the pre-made designs in Canva? How might you adjust it to market your product to different people?

Step 5: Ask a family member to share what you’ve learned on social media using #WonderWednesdayTN & #LearningInPlaceTN!

Future Friday

Arts offers STEM career options within this digital cluster. Jobs in this field range from working on video/video equipment and graphic design to interior design and fashion design. As you explore, make notes about how each career utilizes the STEM Habits of Mind  in your Da Vinci notebook.

Today, you will investigate different careers in the digital arts field and consider how they use the design process!

Step 1: Have you ever illustrated one of your stories? An illustrator is an individual that creates the images in books. Explore this video of how an illustrator designs pictures for children’s books.

Step 2: Explore the job of a shoe designer. How do you start with designing a shoe? See what Tinker Hatfield designer of Air Jordan’s has to say about designing shoes.

Step 3: Investigate what it means to be a photographer in a digital era. How do they use STEM Habits of Mind in getting the right shot?

Step 4: Which of the careers you explored today is most interesting to you? Why? Jot down your thoughts in your Da Vinci notebook.

Step 5: Ask a family member to share something you learned about a career in arts using #FutureFridayTN and #LearningInPlaceTN!
